How to Choose Your First Subwoofer Setup
The most common question we get from first-time subwoofer buyers isn't which brand to choose — it's how much bass they actually need. Before picking a subwoofer, it helps to be honest about how you'll use it.
Daily driver or show-off build?
If you want clean, tight bass that makes music sound better without rattling your mirrors, a single 10" or 12" subwoofer in a sealed or shallow enclosure is usually plenty. If you're chasing maximum output, that's a different build entirely, with dual subs, a larger ported or fire-down box, and an amp sized to match.
Enclosure type matters more than you'd think
A sealed box gives tighter, more accurate bass. A ported box gets louder for the same power but takes up more space. Shallow and low-profile enclosures trade a bit of output for keeping your trunk usable — a common choice for daily drivers.
Match the amp to the sub, not the other way around
An underpowered amp will make a subwoofer sound weak no matter how good it is. We size the amplifier to the subwoofer's power handling first, then tune the gain properly instead of just cranking it to full.
